Friedman takes a deep dive into the thoughts of Amy Young, Managing Director of
Multi-Family, to gain insight into her busy day and find out how she juggles it all.

 

Q: How long have you been with Friedman and what is your role?

I started with Friedman in 2011 as a Regional Manager based in Columbus, Ohio. At the time I officed from a community in Johnstown and shortly thereafter I transitioned to a home office. At that time, we managed roughly 3,500 apartment homes. Today I am the Managing Director of a portfolio of 43 properties in 11 states and we manage over 20,000 apartments. I am still based out of Columbus, Ohio and span a region over the Midwest and support Regional Managers in each of those respective markets.

Q: What does your day to day look like?

Fast and Furious! Filled with emails, collaboration, strategic planning, and client interaction.

Q: If I were to go into your office what would we find on your desk?

My desk has a lot of things on it daily and is everchanging. The core items that are always there is my laptop, a notebook, a variety of colored pens because I like to categorize things, my iPad, a speaker for when I need a little pick me up, and my cell phone.

Q: In an afternoon low what gets you through the day?

If I need a pick me up, I call one of my teammates. My regionals who are on the field, work hard, and they inspire me to be better and give them support. That little phone call really helps me push through the rest of the day especially if we have a lot of meetings or other things going on that consume your time. That personal phone call makes a big difference.

Q: How do you create a work-life balance?

Keeping a work-life balance when I work from home is difficult. It is something that I have struggled with over the years, but my family and spouse really help me to stop my workday and go do something fun with them. Even if it is just hanging out at home. So, after a hard workday, I just try to focus on my family time.

Q: Describe the Friedman culture in your own words.

The Friedman Frenzy! It is so fast and furious here because we are always looking for new and better ways to do our job. Everybody is committed and we work with a sense of urgency. The day goes by fast and we are constantly working hard to make things better for our clients and company.

Q: In your opinion what makes Friedman one of the top places to work?

One of the things I love about Friedman is the energy we possess as employees. We are very tenacious and hardworking, and we want to do the best for not only our clients but also for our associates.

Q: What advice would you give to future employees to succeed at Friedman?

Be tenacious, communicative, and ambitious. There are a lot of opportunities at Friedman to learn and grow. By asking questions and being involved in the day to day operations of multi-family there is a lot of opportunity to succeed.
